The TH94 Jersey
On 19 March 1994, Snoop Doggy Dogg performed on Saturday Night Live in a red, white and blue striped rugby shirt with TOMMY across the chest. It got there because Andy Hilfiger took a call from Snoop the night before, went to the showroom in the pouring rain, undressed the mannequins and carried the new rugbys to his hotel at midnight. The day after the performance, the shirt sold out everywhere.
Two years earlier, Grand Puba had put the brand on record on Mary J. Blige’s “What’s the 411?”; the same track behind our Alpine 92. SNL is where it finished the job. A preppy rugby shirt, on the biggest stage on American television, on a rapper from Long Beach.
We haven’t reproduced that shirt. We’ve taken the colour blocking and built it in our own colours; the crimson, cream and black from the first Old Novo jersey. Cream yoke and collar, black body dropped in at the chest, twin crimson bands on each sleeve, black cuffs. Embroidered OLD NOVO at the hem.
Inspired by a moment in hip-hop history. Not affiliated with or endorsed by Tommy Hilfiger.
