Old Novo “Logan” Striped Rugby Jersey
The Logan Jersey
In 1883, a headmaster named Logan arrived at Royal Grammar School, Newcastle. The school had been playing rugby for six years, on grounds barely fit for purpose, against teams called Tankerville, Armstrong and the Y.M.C.A. from South Shields.
Logan changed that. In 29 years he built three XV teams, won the Schools Cup, and introduced the first rugby colours. The men coaching his teams were both Northumberland County players. One became President of the Northumberland Rugby Union.
The 1897 photograph is the earliest team photo we could find of the RGS 1st XV. Two years after it was taken, those players founded the Old Novocastrians Rugby Football Club.
We built this jersey from that photograph.
